About Ismail Bawa

Our Story

Ismail Bawa’s story is one of resilience, growth, and a lifelong commitment to service.

Born in 1985 in the village of Mosali in Gujarat, India, Ismail came to Canada in 2003 as a young adult, stepping into a completely new environment. Without familiarity with the language or systems, he quickly learned that success would require hard work, adaptability, and persistence.

Like many newcomers, Ismail began his journey working entry-level jobs, facing challenges and setbacks along the way. After losing his first job due to limited experience, he made a defining decision to invest in his education and build a stronger foundation for the future.

He completed his high school education in Ontario and continued his studies in Police Foundations. His career path then took him across Canada, where he worked in public-facing roles including transit operations and corrections, gaining valuable experience in communication, accountability, and working with people from all walks of life.

After returning to Ontario, Ismail continued in roles serving the public, including with the Toronto Transit Commission. In 2017, he began his career in municipal policing, where he has continued to serve professionally.

Throughout his career, Ismail has had the opportunity to work with diverse communities, respond to complex situations, and support individuals during challenging moments. These experiences have shaped his understanding of community needs, responsibility, and the importance of trust.

Outside of his professional work, Ismail has remained actively involved in the community. Since 2015, he has volunteered his time mentoring youth, coaching sports, and supporting families. He dedicates over 150 hours annually to community service and has received recognition for his contributions.

Ismail is committed to continuous learning. While working full-time, he pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2025. He has also contributed as an instructor, supporting the development and training of others in public service roles.

At his core, Ismail is a husband and father of two. His experiences at home continue to shape his values of responsibility, balance, and service.

His journey from newcomer to public servant has been guided by perseverance, discipline, and a commitment to giving back to the community.
